ICM 1998

Sites of the International Congress

Opening and First Day (August 18, 1998)
ICC Berlin

The activities of the first day will take place at the International Congress Center Berlin (ICC Berlin). The ICC Berlin is located close to the downtown area, which means it can be reached comfortably and quickly by subway, train, bus, taxi or on foot.

The ICC Berlin is one of the world's largest and most modern congress centers, accommodating more than 7000 people in its main lecture hall. It was opened on April 2, 1979 and has since hosted more than 5500 conventions. Besides its prime location it offers a preeminent architecture, high-tech facilities and a wide range of services.

August 19 - 27, 1998
TU Berlin

After the opening day, the congress will be held at the TU Berlin (TUB). The TU Berlin was founded as the Royal Technical College in 1879. Among the faculty were illustrious names like Weierstraß, Christoffel and Kähler. During the last decade the TUB grew to become one of the largest technical universities in Germany.

The modern buildings of this period have been grouped around the original campus, making the TUB a university of small distances. Some of the new buildings, especially the Institute for Mathematics, offer a quite spectacular architecture.

Thanks to its central location and its superb facilities, the TUB has hosted many important congresses.

Though situated in the heart of the city, a large park, the Tiergarten, is located adjacent to the TUB, providing an enticing opportunity to relax or take a stroll. The Brandenburger Gate and other famous sights such as the Reichstagsgebäude or the Kongreßhalle are within easy walking distance. To satisfy culinary and cultural needs, the area surrounding the TU Berlin offers theaters, cinemas, galleries and a large assortment of restaurants, ranging from the typical Berlin pubs, the `Kneipen', to exquisite dining establishments.

Just fifteen minutes away is the Kurfürstendamm, one of Europe's grand boulevards.
