About the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire

Welcome to the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire

The Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire has existed since 1980 as a joint seminar in Combinatorics for the Universities of Bayreuth, Erlangen and Strasbourg, as well as the other Universities along the Lotharingian boundaries. Regular meetings will continue in the same spirit, but it has been decided in 1994 that the Seminar hosts an international electronic journal carrying the same name.

The proceedings of the periodical seminars are been reedited in electronic form, i.e., whenever possible, papers that appeared in the paper issues of the I.R.M.A. Strasbourg collection will become electronically available.

Starting with vol. 32, all papers, now appearing in electronic form, are being refereed. Most of them have been read during the sessions of the Séminaire that still meets twice a year.

The editorial board reflects our European initiative. Most of its members participate in a European program in Algebraic Combinatorics. We mean to enlarge the editorial board to scholars from the entire world showing a definite interest in the very many facets of Combinatorics.

We keep collaborating with the Electronic Journal of Combinatorics published in America under the auspices of Herb S. Wilf, who is also a member of our editorial board.

Why "Lotharingien"?

From the speech held by Dominique Foata at the 33th meeting at Freiberg (translated):

"When the Séminaire was founded in 1980, Adalbert Kerber was already in Bayreuth. However, he had spent his years as Dozent in Aachen. Aachen and Strasbourg certainly belonged to Lotharingen, Lothar Regnum, then Lothringen, Lorraine, ..., in any case to a kingdom that hardly ever existed. Erlangen, the town where Volker Strehl comes from, belonged to the kingdom of Ludwig the German, another grandson of Charlesmagne, and can be considered, in a wider sense, as part of Lotharingen. But we needed a name for the Séminaire. In the meantime, Adalbert had decided to stay in Bayreuth, a town even farther from the "Mittelreich"! But the idea was already born, and the name of the Séminaire spread in the mathematical world as `Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire (Bayreuth, Erlangen, Strasbourg)'."

How to submit documents to slc?

Send your paper to one of the three main editors (Christian Krattenthaler (), Volker Strehl (), Jean-Yves Thibon (), preferrably by email. Any kind of article is welcome: independent of whether or not it has been presented at a meeting of the Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire.

How to prepare an accepted article for publication?

If an article is accepted for publication, it would save us a lot of time if the following checklist is gone through. (It is the checklist that we go through. If you should already have done it, it would be great help for us.)
