Downloading and viewing instructions
If you are using a World Wide Web browser to view the pages of the Electronic
Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, then simply
click on the appropriate link to download the paper on your own computer in DVI, PostScript
or PDF format. In order to view and print these files you need a viewer that understands
the appropriate format (see the pages on viewing and printing the DVI,
PostScript and PDF files).
You can even set up your browser so that after the download is complete it starts
the appropriate DVI,
PS or PDF viewer program.
If you have only e-mail access, or you do not want to check back every now
and then to see if a new paper appeared in the Electronic Journal of
Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, then you can
subscribe to our mailing list.
All the available formats have advantages and disadvatages. Let me summarize their
best and worst properties so that you can easily decide which one is best for
you:
- DVI files: These files are small, have standard format and are well-know
if one uses TeX. To view or print these files you need a
viewer (DVIWIN is 1.6 Mb), you need font files (a full 300 dpi font set is 10.3 Mb), and
you need the pictures, if there are pictures in the DVI file. You might experience
problems with this format if you do not have some of the fonts used in the DVI file,
or if the viewer is not capable of showing or printing the pictures referenced by the DVI
file. To view these files we would recommend a 100 dpi font sets for the screen, to print
them in an acceptable form we would recommend 300 dpi font sets. Note that viewing and
printing these files in 300 dpi needs at least 8 Mb of RAM in Windows (using DVIWIN).
- PostScript files: These files are in standard ASCII text form, they are
graphics description files. They can be resolution independent (in this journal we
use 600 dpi PostScript files), they contain all font and graphics information but they
are 3--8 times larger than the DVI files. To view or print
these files you need a viewer (GSView is 5.8 Mb), and a Win32S emulator (3.3 Mb) for
Windows 3.x. You might experience problems with displaying this format in larger
than 150 dpi even on a machine with 16 Mb or more RAM. Note that viewing and printing these
files requires at least 8 Mb of RAM in Windows (using GSView), but even with 16 Mb of
RAM it will not be very fast.
- PDF files: These files are binary files, they are
graphics
description files. They can be resolution independent (in this journal we
use 600 dpi PDF files), they contain all font and graphics information but they
are 3--6 times larger than the DVI files. To view or print
these files you need a viewer (GSView is 5.8 Mb), and a Win32S emulator (3.3 Mb) for
Windows 3.x or Acrobat Reader. You might experience problems with displaying
this format in larger
than 150 dpi even on a machine with 16 Mb or more RAM. Note that
viewing and printing these
files requires at least 8 Mb of RAM in Windows, but
even with 16 Mb of
RAM it will not be very fast.
