Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope
The Electronic Journal of Probability accepts research papers in all areas of probability.
It is expected that the papers published in EJP will generally be longer than those published in the Electronic Communications in Probability.

Peer Review Process
In order to maintain the highest possible research standards, papers will be refereed in the usual way, and no attempt will be made to speed up the refereeing process at the cost of quality.

Publication Frequency
The articles are published shortly after being accepted, usually within a month.

Open Access Policy
Open Access Research

This journal provides open access to all of it content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work. For more information on this approach, see the Public Knowledge Project, which has designed this system to improve the scholarly and public quality of research, and which freely distributes the journal system as well as other software to support the open access publishing of scholarly resources.

EJP Charter

  • Electronic Journal of Probability and Electronic Communications in Probability publish papers in all areas of probability.
  • The electronic version of the journals is free to individuals.
  • EJP/ECP will accept only papers of high quality both in terms of scientific contents and the presentation of the results (including the graphical aspect of the work).
  • The refereeing process will follow the traditional conventions. The refereeing time varies enormously but there will be no delay in publication after the paper is accepted. Authors concerned with the fast dissemination of their results are advised to submit an abstract of their work to Probability Abstract Service together with a link (URL) to a copy of their paper in a publicly accessible directory on their own computer.
  • The contents of the journals will be archived in some way besides electronic files
(CD-ROM, hard-copy, etc.). The official archived article record will consist of three versions: TeX, dvi and postscript.
  • The editors will take precautions to ensure safety of the papers. For example, the electronic files will be stored at multiple sites and on various media.
  • The editors will try to provide a printed version of the journals (at a cost)
if there is enough interest among probabilists who cannot access the journals in the electronic way.

IMS Affiliation
In August, 1996, The Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS) Council agreed to a proposal that The Electronic Journal of Probability (EJP) and The Electronic Communications in Probability (ECP) become affiliated journals of the IMS.

The terms of affiliation are:

  1. EJP/ECP may advertise that they are journals affiliated with the IMS, and the IMS will list the contents of these journals in the Bulletin, and provide links to EJP/ECP Web site from its own Web site.
  2. The IMS will oversee the appointment of members to future advisory boards; the current (1996) board to finish their appointments at the end of 1998.
  3. In consultation with the advisory board, the IMS will oversee appointment of future editors of the journals: the current editors finish their current terms at the end of 1998.
  4. No financial support for the journals is to be provided at this time, although requests for support might be considered in the future.
  5. The IMS may end this affiliation at its discretion.
